My husband and I are soon to be sealed with our children in our local temple
and we are going to have a party at our local stake center afterward to
celebrate this milestone with both our church friends and our non-member
friends and family (and there are a lot!).
Even though they can't attend the ceremony, we have found some ways to include
the non-members in our special day. In their invite we are asking that they wear
a specific color (in our case blue) but in any shade or style they want. Also we
will have corsages for the ladies and boutennieres for the guys (I have a cousin
who is a florist so I am majorly saving on this). These things will set them
apart from the other guests. Any of them that want will also have little
tasks to do to help the reception run smoothly.
We are having the Bishop (who has been the neighbor of my non-member
grandparents for thirty years) to give a short talk explaining what a sealing
is and why it is so important for our family.
Lastly we are including framed scriptures on each table with verses from both
the Bible and the Book of Mormon to help our friends and family see that we are
not so different after all.
We hope these ideas are helpful for anyone getting married or sealed who also
have lots of non-members they want to share their day with.
God Bless. JJ
