Comment 1:  A Personal Plug

Please read the other comments, but Betty and I would like to put in a plug
for our own son, Glenn, who is a new photographer and is very good. In fact,
he's very good. Please visit his home page, ldsphotographer.com and check out
some of the albums he has there.

We especially recommend looking at his temple gallery because as our prophets
have said several times, you should put pictures of temples on your walls
to inspire your children to look there when they grow up. We have several
and love their beauty.

Comment 2:  From A Professional

I read the section on whether or not to hire a wedding photographer and wanted to
point out a few things that might make all the difference in getting great wedding
pictures or just getting snap shots.

Like you pointed out in your section on not having disposable cameras at the table,
having a friend photograph your wedding can also be a risky situation providing you
with many undesired and unusable pictures.

Hiring a professional wedding photographer will guarantee several wonderful pictures
from your wedding which you will be able to look back on for a lifetime.

You can find professionals who are affordable and provide an hourly service with
rights to the digital files for personal use, so you get the digital files and can
use them for whatever you would like.

So why shouldn't I have Uncle Ulyses take the pictures, he has a nice camera?

Uncle Ulyses may have a nice camera but unless he is a professional photographer he
probably does not have a complete wedding photographer's tool kit. Wedding
photographers spend as much as $2000 per lens or more to ensure you get great
pictures. In addition to cameras and lenses are speed lights, reflectors, batteries,
computer editing equipment and the list goes on...

Not only is there a huge investment in equipment on the part of a professional
wedding photographer but there is also an enormous investment in time learning how
to use the equipment and practicing.

Uncle Ulyses's camera may be top of the line but does he know how to use it and is
he well versed in the art of anticipation to capture the moment?

The real questions to ask yourself are:
  • Are pictures of my wedding day important to me?
  • How important are they? If your answer is not a top priority or Finances are better spent elsewhere then have Uncle Ulyses snap away. If they are somewhat important, find a photographer who will come out for a few hours, for the really important events like the ring exchange or coming out of the temple or all the fun reception stuff. If you really want to document the day and create an in depth record (call it family history) then hire a pro who is up to date on all the current styles to document the whole day and give you an edited and stylized album and all of your pictures when you are done. That way in 50 years you will be able to show your grandkids not only were grandma and grandpa good looking when they got sealed in the temple but they were pretty awesome in other ways, too. This professional opinion was submitted from opticalindulgences.com who has offices in Denver and Utah (See bottom of their page for phone numbers).

Comment 3:  Helping A New Photographer

If you want to find a good photographer, but don't dare ask a friend,
and can't afford an expensive professional, we suggest contacting your
local police academy and ask for crime scene photographers and ask one
of them to do it. They will probably charge much less than professional
studio photographers. Sometimes these photographers are trying to start
their own photography business and would love to help.
